Governor Gavin Newsom has announced several new appointments across various commissions and boards.

Shelly Guyer from San Francisco has been appointed to the California Volunteers Commission. Guyer served as Chief Sustainability Officer at Invitae Corporation from 2021 to 2022 and held the position of Chief Financial Officer there from 2017 to 2021. Her previous roles include Chief Financial Officer at Veracyte Inc. from 2013 to 2016, and Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Finance and Administration at iRhythm Technologies Inc. from 2008 to 2012. Guyer also worked at JPMorgan Securities/Hambrecht & Quist from 1988 to 2006 in various capacities including Associate, Vice President, and Principal. She is currently a Board Member of NGM Bio Holdings Inc. and the Penney Family Fund, as well as a Trustee Emerita at Phillips Academy. This appointment does not require Senate confirmation and carries no compensation. Guyer is affiliated with the Democratic Party.

Jeffrey Hoffman of Long Beach has been reappointed to the California Volunteers Commission, where he has served since 2005. Hoffman is a Founding Leader at The Conference Board since 2014 and President of Jeff Hoffman & Associates since 2010. His career includes several positions with The Walt Disney Company from 1978 to 2010, such as Vice President of Disney Worldwide Outreach from 2001 to 2010, Director of The Disney University and Corporate Human Resources from 1985 to 2001, among other roles in Disneyland Theme Park Operations from 1978 to 1985. Hoffman holds board memberships with Points of Light and other organizations, including being a Founding Chair at the California Volunteers Fund. He earned his MBA from Pepperdine University and a BA in Public Relations, Cinema, and Television from the University of Southern California. This position does not require Senate confirmation and offers no compensation. Hoffman is a Republican.

Sean Varner of Riverside has been appointed to the California Volunteers Commission as well. Varner is Managing Partner at Varner & Brandt LLP since 2006 and serves on multiple boards including Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Foundation and First Tee of the Inland Empire. He also participates in advisory committees for UC Riverside athletics among others. Varner holds a Juris Doctor degree from Pepperdine School of Law and a BA in Political Science and International Relations from UCLA. This role does not require Senate confirmation or offer compensation; Varner is affiliated with the Republican Party.

Helio Brasil of Ripon joins the San Joaquin County Fair Board of Directors for the 2nd District Agricultural Association. Brasil has been Superintendent of Keyes Union School District since 2017 and is involved with several educational associations including the Small School Districts’ Association and California Association of School Administrators. He earned both his Doctorate in Education and Master’s degree in Education from St. Mary’s College along with a BA in Political Science from CSU Stanislaus. This appointment requires no Senate confirmation or compensation; Brasil is a Democrat.

Lisa Fox-Evans from Stockton has also been appointed to the San Joaquin County Fair Board for the same district association as Brasil. Evans works as Senior Office Administrator at San Joaquin County Hospital since 2012 while serving as Executive Director at Angela’s Team Empire Inc., starting in 2018. This position does not need Senate confirmation nor provides compensation; Evans identifies as a Democrat.

Lastly, Amy Raymondo of Orland will join the Glenn County Fair Board for the 42nd District Agricultural Association as an RCM Senior Manager and Client Executive at Veradigm since 2019 without requiring Senate confirmation or receiving compensation; she is affiliated with the Republican Party.
