Governor Gavin Newsom of California has officially declared May 1, 2025, as a “Day of Prayer” for the state. In a proclamation made on this date, Newsom highlighted the importance of prayer and reflection for many Californians as a source of comfort, hope, and strength.

The proclamation emphasizes the observance of the National Day of Prayer as a chance to appreciate religious liberty and freedom of speech in the United States, acknowledging these as vital rights for people of all beliefs.

On this day, Newsom called for remembrance of those lost and urged drawing on the strength and resilience shown by Californians in upholding values such as community, inclusion, and generosity during challenging times.

The Governor’s proclamation notes the diversity in how residents of varying faiths and backgrounds observe the day, commending California’s ability to unite and progress across different divides.

“In witness whereof,” Newsom stated, marking the official announcement with the symbolic affixing of the Great Seal of the State of California. The declaration was also attested by Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., Secretary of State.
