Californians are being advised to prepare for extreme heat and smoky conditions affecting various parts of the state. Governor Gavin Newsom has urged residents to utilize available resources to safeguard against heat-related illnesses as temperatures rise.

The National Weather Service has issued advisories for many regions, particularly the Central Valley and areas west of Redding in Northern California, where temperatures are expected to remain high into next week. Smoke from wildfires in remote locations is also affecting air quality.

“As temperatures soar across our state, I urge Californians to take precautions and utilize state and local resources to protect from dangerous heat illness and unhealthy air,” stated Governor Gavin Newsom.

The CalHeatScore tool shows moderate to severe heat conditions will impact northern and central California through early next week. Residents can check local conditions by zip code.

Tips for staying safe include creating a heat plan, seeking cool environments like libraries or shopping centers, using cooling techniques at home, and relying on support networks. It’s crucial to have an emergency preparedness plan tailored to personal needs.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts through local officials. Additionally, participation in a medical baseline program is recommended for those dependent on power for medical needs, ensuring they receive notifications during potential power shutoffs amid extreme heat events.
