Georgia state Senator John F. Kennedy has been recognized as the 2025 State Legislator of the Year by the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC). The announcement was made during an event in San Diego on September 30, 2025.

Kennedy received this recognition for a decade of work supporting insurance public policy reforms in Georgia. He played a leading role in sponsoring legislation designed to address legal system abuse in the state and contributed over ten hours of testimony before both legislative chambers. According to NAMIC, his knowledge and approach to collaboration and transparency were central throughout the process.

“Senator Kennedy’s efforts will have long-lasting, positive impact on Georgian consumers,” said Neil Alldredge, president and CEO of NAMIC. “His strategic leadership helped secure the votes needed to pass legal reform bills that promote fairness and reduce abusive litigation practices. This commitment reflects the respect he commands among his colleagues and his ability to navigate complex policy landscapes.”

The association noted that Kennedy’s actions come at a time when insurance rates are rising across the United States due to factors such as severe weather events, inflation, and regulatory challenges. His work targeting legal system abuse is seen as a potential way to provide relief for consumers facing higher costs.

“I am truly honored to be named NAMIC’s 2025 State Legislator of the Year,” said Sen. Kennedy. “The fight to balance Georgia’s civil justice system was made possible through close collaboration with stakeholders across the insurance industry. I am confident this work will deliver significant relief to Georgia businesses and consumers, while further strengthening our state’s pro-business climate.”

NAMIC annually recognizes one or more state lawmakers who support free-market principles and advocate for improvements within their states’ insurance markets.

NAMIC represents a broad spectrum of insurers nationwide, including large national companies as well as regional and local mutual insurers. Its members write $383 billion in annual premiums, covering 61 percent of homeowners’ policies, 48 percent of automobile insurance, and 25 percent of business insurance policies across the country.
