Denise Aguilar, co-founder of the Freedom Angels Foundation, reported a significant increase in her car insurance premium, which she attributed to policies enacted by California Democrats. “My car insurance premium doubled overnight from $219.40 to $405.26,” Aguilar said on X on February 18.

“Thank you to California Democrats and Gavin Newsom for destroying everything they touch,” said Aguilar. “I despise these people making it hard every which way we look.”

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, California’s Senate Bill 1107 has increased the minimum required auto insurance coverage. The bodily injury liability coverage rose from $15,000 to $30,000 per person and from $30,000 to $60,000 for multiple people. Additionally, property damage coverage increased from $5,000 to $15,000. This legislative change aims to provide better protection for car crash victims but has resulted in higher insurance premiums for drivers.

Axios reports that lawsuit abuse and rising insurance costs are contributing factors to increasing rideshare fares. The American Tort Reform Association estimates that lawsuit abuse costs every American $1,424 annually. Meanwhile, insurance costs for rideshare services have surged nearly 50% per trip over three years, forcing passengers to pay more. In California and New Jersey, about one-third of a rider’s fare goes to insurance compared to just 5% in Washington D.C.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Aguilar is a candidate for California Assembly District 13, representing Stockton, Lathrop, Tracy, and Mountain House. She became active in politics in 2015 following the passage of CA SB277 which removed vaccine exemptions for schoolchildren and has since been a strong advocate for parental rights and legislative reform.
