Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that California has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This grant will help provide vital resources to Riverside County for suppressing the Airport Fire.
The Airport Fire, which began on Monday afternoon in Trabuco Canyon, has expanded to 19,028 acres across unincorporated areas of Orange and Riverside counties. The fire has led to the evacuation of thousands of residents and is threatening over 10,000 structures.
“California is continuing to see extreme fire behavior across multiple locations in Southern California, where hot, dry weather has led to rapid fire growth. We are thankful for federal support from the Biden-Harris Administration to support firefighters as they work to suppress these fires and keep people safe,” stated Governor Gavin Newsom.
The FMAG, provided through the President’s Disaster Relief Fund on a cost-share basis, allows local, state, and tribal agencies responding to the fire to apply for 75-percent reimbursement of their eligible fire suppression costs.
Earlier this wildfire season, California also secured FMAGs for several other fires including Borel, Park, Thompson, French, Hawarden, Boyles, Line and Bridge fires.
