The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced the reopening of its Santa Maria office at a new location. The office, located at 2850 Santa Maria Way, will open its doors at 8 a.m. on Friday, August 1.

This move is part of the DMV’s efforts to modernize and upgrade its infrastructure across California. The new facility is significantly larger than the previous one, expanding from 4,387 square feet to 13,500 square feet. It includes updated facilities and increased customer parking. Notably, the building is equipped with solar panels and operates as a Zero Net Energy facility, aligning with California’s green energy standards.

The former office on McClelland Street was closed on June 20 due to population growth and the age of the building which made it challenging to meet community needs.

In addition to physical improvements, the DMV continues to enhance its digital services. Many tasks that previously required an in-office visit can now be completed online. Customers are encouraged to use these online services for driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals among other transactions. A Service Advisor tool on the DMV website provides guidance for completing various tasks.

For those interested in paperless registration and renewal notices, signing up requires creating an account on dmv.ca.gov.
