With a severe windstorm and heightened fire weather conditions predicted in Southern California, Governor Gavin Newsom has taken action to mobilize state resources. The forecast, which predicts dangerous winds and extreme fire risk from Tuesday through Thursday, affects Los Angeles, Ventura, and other counties.

Governor Newsom emphasized the importance of early coordination with local partners to protect communities as the hazardous weather approaches. “We are no strangers to winter-time wildfire threats,” he stated, urging Californians to heed local authorities and be prepared for possible evacuations.

To address these conditions, state departments have been directed to position resources strategically. This includes prepositioning 65 local government fire engines, 7 water tenders, 7 helicopters, 9 dozers, and over 105 specialized personnel across several counties such as Los Angeles and Ventura. Additionally, CAL FIRE is moving resources from Northern California into the affected areas.

The National Weather Service warns that Ventura and Los Angeles Counties could experience winds exceeding 60 mph with gusts up to 100 mph in some areas. High winds are expected in various mountain ranges and valleys around Los Angeles.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts at ready.ca.gov and prepare evacuation plans due to potential power outages caused by wildfires. Safety tips include avoiding downed power lines during high winds and staying indoors when possible.
