Kimberly L. Bryant, an insurance agent with Brown Insurance Services Inc., said that several private insurers are lowering homeowners’ rates, indicating that Florida’s insurance reforms are beginning to yield results for consumers. This statement was made on LinkedIn.

“Finally, some good news for Florida policyholders,” said L. Bryant, Personal Lines Insurance Producer, according to LinkedIn. “After years of steep premium increases, a few private insurers are starting to reduce rates — a promising sign that Florida’s insurance reforms are working. Florida Peninsula Insurance Company recently filed for an 8.4% average decrease on homeowners’ policies and a 12% reduction for condo policyholders. Security First Insurance Company announced a 5.2% drop for homeowners (HO-3) and a 5.9% cut for renters’ (HO-4) coverage.”

After years of significant premium increases, Florida Peninsula Insurance Company, one of the state’s top ten homeowners insurers, filed with the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) to reduce homeowners’ rates by approximately 8.4% and condo rates by 12%. The company attributed these reductions to recent reforms in litigation and claims rules, which have enabled savings to be passed on to policyholders.

Security First Insurance Company also announced rate cuts of 5.2% for homeowners (HO-3) and 5.9% for renters (HO-4) policies. The company cited improved market conditions following the state’s insurance reforms as a reason for these reductions. Officials from Security First said reduced litigation costs and stronger reinsurance availability have created a more sustainable environment, allowing savings to be transferred to Florida policyholders.

According to the Florida Surplus Lines Service Office’s Market Insights report from June 2025, the state’s property insurance market is showing renewed strength. Private carriers are gradually expanding capacity and re-entering voluntary markets. The report credits legislative reforms and improved reinsurance access for reducing volatility and encouraging competition among admitted and surplus lines insurers.
