Michael Bullock, a Special Olympics Rhode Island athlete from East Providence, and his family attended the Boston Celtics game against the Milwaukee Bucks at TD Garden on February 1. The experience was part of the Beyond the Patch initiative, a collaboration between Amica Mutual Insurance Company and the Boston Celtics that works with local organizations to honor individuals in New England.
Bullock has participated in Special Olympics Rhode Island since 1996, competing in basketball and track and field with the Rhody Rangers. He said basketball is important to him because “it takes teamwork to play well.”
The Bullock family received courtside seats for Sunday’s game, behind-the-scenes access to pregame warmups, and an on-court photo session with the team photographer. Michael was also given a custom Boston Celtics jersey before tipoff.
“Moments like this are what our Beyond the Patch initiative is all about,” said Ted Shallcross, Amica president and CEO. “Michael’s dedication as a Special Olympics athlete and his love for the game embody the spirit of teamwork and perseverance that sports can inspire. We were honored to welcome him and his family to TD Garden and create an experience we hope they’ll remember for a long time.”
Amica is currently the Exclusive Auto, Home and Life Insurance Partner of the Boston Celtics. The company began its role as official jersey patch sponsor starting with the 2024–25 season.
